Philosophy: Martial vs. Art

My fire spinning often reflects back on my martial arts days. Martial arts, to me, was not about katas or beautiful patterns. It was a brutal style where the primary focus was to end a fight and send a sharp, precise message. There was no rules to our techniques. Only what would end a conflict quickly and I trained hard to learn how to permanently disable others with great efficiency.
I fought fiercely back in those days, learning like a sponge, wanting to become the most efficient fighter I could. But as time went on, I started losing heart in all of it. Something I realized is that destruction is easy but creation is difficult. It's much easier to take a life than it is to raise one from the ground up. Hurting takes only a moment but healing can take a lifetime. The contrast of seeing life in two opposing forces is the story of my life, one that I changed directions halfway through my 20s.
Fire dancing has rekindled my martial arts passion but instead of becoming a powerful destructive force, I have become a powerful creative force. If I had to fight my old self, I'd probably have three broken limbs and be only to see out of one eye... But in the end, when I leave this crazy world, I believe I will have left a much more powerful and meaningful wave as an artist rather than a fighter. Just my reflection for today...
