THE 2014 RETREAT IS OVER BUT BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR 2015

 

From October 5 - 18, 2014, Ken Hill, creator of Nunchakutricks ( http://www.nunchakutricks.com/ ) and this site (Flowtricks), is coming to teach 1 - 2 weeks of exciting nunchaku workshops (aka "Nunchuks"). Included will also be Martial Arts Flow and Staff classes.

More than a series of workshops, the Costa Rica retreat is an escape into paradise. We will be hiking up a waterfall, taking a boat trip to the beautiful Isla Tortuga (with optional snorkeling), performing at a Friday night fire show in Montezuma where you can show off your new moves in front of a crowd (also optional but awesome!) and we will definitely take some down time to hit the beach. You can also go on a canopy tour, surfing and more. Included is a stay at La Escuela Del Sol. ( http://www.laescueladelsol.com/?view=featured ). Meals will not be included but you'll have a full kitchen available to you and will be within walking distance of 20 restaurants.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The daily workshops teaches you a fusion of martial arts and flow arts. Every day, a new nunchaku workshop and a staff/martial flow workshop will be taught, packed with techniques and performance tips. It's perfect for beginners and advanced spinners. Beginners will learn the foundations which will open up the possibilities for hundreds of moves. Advanced spinners will be challenged with theories, patterns and tricks that merge modern prop manipulation techniques with nunchaku style.

The curriculum will include but won't be limited to the following:

Sample techniques: Catches, passes, bounces, throws, moonwaves, chain manipulations, hyper style and more. There are over 260 nunchaku techniques to learn!

Tips to maximize your fire nunchaku spins. Safety, tricks and fire only techniques are covered (such as fireballs, lines of fire, transfers and more).

How to accentuate with body positioning and make your performances "big"

Capitalizing on drops and also accidental chain catches

Tapping in to the pulse inside of you so you can use spinning for active meditation.

Utilizing planes with a variety of footwork

Creating chains of combined endless flow patterns

Tips on using nunchaku to create presence, dazzle audiences and turning a spin session into a mesmerizing showcase.

Add Martial Flow and Staff: The martial technique will be taught with the flow counterpart. This style compliments any prop and teaches a deeper understanding of footwork, body mechanics, and connecting with your prop through the entire body. The Martial Flow style can be added to almost any prop to create a powerful, dramatic performance. The additional staff classes teaches how to make a whirlwind of infinite circles while maintaining footwork, strong body positions, endless fluid transitions and more.


Add Yoga:
Yoga may be added to your program for $60, however this workshop will not be compatible with Spanish, surfing or Scuba classes during the week. Longer stays may be accommodated for those who would like to combine nunchaku with other LEDS offerings either before or after the workshop. Post Costa Rica training:
Everyone will leave sharper, faster, and definitely more inspired. After training, you will be sent a solid daily training guide that you can use for the rest of the year to enhance your ninja flow. You will also receive a few post-Costa Rica nunchaku training optimization videos to keep you on top of your game until our next retreat!

About Ken Hill:
Ken is one of the most widely recognized fire nunchaku artists in the world today. He has performed on the front stage of national music festivals such as Wakarusa, Envision and Wanderlust with Quixotic. His online video tutorial series, Nunchakutricks, have gathered over 850,000 views since it began in 2013. He has taught workshops at many fire retreats across the United States, been featured in a DVD compilation of inspirational fire spinners around the world (Circles of Light 2010, 2011 and 2012), is a columnist for the Fire and Flow Arts magazine and has created an international flow arts video competition called Ultimate Ninja.
